I Hear the Words, "That's Final" Outta Your Mouth Again, They Truly Will Be

"Crime and politics, little girl. The situation is always -- fluid."

Badger left out "and convention schedules" in that list too. I posted a few days ago a tentative schedule for Bards Without Borders, April 5, 2008 as part of FilKONtario. Well, ladies and menfolk - it's changed. FOR THE BETTER! Yea! How much better? How about a SECOND concert by the Bedlam Bards?

Here's the low down (dirty deceiver) on it now:

10:00 am - 11:00 am: Q&A and autographs with the Bedlam Bards. Fairly self explanatory title don't you think?
---Dealers' Room and Con Suite also open---

11:00 am - 12:00 pm: Hypnotized by Firefly:
Cedric will take you on a journey of the 'Verse and you can sail on your favorite space ship- all via your own mind.
---Dealers' Room and Con Suite also open---

12:00 pm -1:00 pm: Videos of the 'Verse:
Fan vids and other collect wonders of the Browncoaty theme projected for your viewing pleasure. As mentioned before, the world premiere of "The Fisher Price Little People Version of Serenity" will be shown. Also, Nathan Town himself has given us permission to air his wonderful Fan Film parody "Mosquito". Other shiny viewings will be included as well.
---Dealers' Room and Con Suite also open---

1:00 pm - 5:15 pm FilKONtario concerts in the main hall.
Four main concerts, plus several "one shots" by great filkers from all over the continent. The Bards' show is scheduled for 3:15 pm and will be followed by vixy and Tony's performance (as mentioned earlier this is the duo who wrote and recorded "Mal's Song" as 'Escape Key')
---Dealers' Room and Con Suite also open---

5:30 pm - 7:00 pm: Chow's in Ten - No Need to Dress:
We'll be serving pizza by the slice and drinks (all for a nominal fee). Hang out with your fellow Browncoats and take some time to mingle and schmooze with our guests of honor- the Bedlam Bards! After all, I'm sure Hawke and Cedric have a powerful need to eat some time this con...!

7:00 pm - 8 pm: In the Company of Kin
Team up with a Browncoat friend and answer questions based on each other's depth of fandom. The team with the most points walks away with shiny prizes!

8:00 pm - 9:00 pm: Some People Juggle Geese!
Try your hand at juggling baby geese. If you can keep 'em flying longer than anyone else, you get prizes! Can't juggle? No problem! Simply "Toss-A-Gos"! Get more fluffy little birds in a WASH tub than anyone else, and you, too will have lovely parting gifts!

9:00 pm -11:00 pm: The Bedlam Bards - On the Drift (without power-- ie Unplugged)
Didn't like sharing *your* Bedlam Bards with everyone else in the main concert hall? Then end your evening in a smaller, more intimate setting for two hours of music. Sing-a-longs, requests and many selections from the Bards' vast repertoire will be included. Also, Hawke will be playing selections from his brand new cd "Out of the Nest". A great way to enjoy the Bedlam Bards' music and company.

Well, there you have it- the Bards Without Borders schedule as it stands right now. The shindig is only 10 days away! So come out and join us, won't you? There's still time to register: http://www.filkontario.ca/ (registration page-- http://www.filkontario.ca/reg.htm )

Until next time:

I Heard There Was an Idea Regarding Beagles?

With respect (but no apologies) to Adam Leavermore-Rich, I am now offering Black Market Beagle Bobbleheads for sale in the Firefly Cargo Bay. Each ceramic beagle is 4 inches and is hand painted - by me no less! They are offered wearing either a red collar with the Serenity disc or a bandanna in a Hawaiian print. At $8.00 (plus shipping) they really are a steal. Adopt one today! (questions/orders can be directed to me at earthgirl@kos.net )
Special thanks to FANGIRL (from FANDONE - link at the left over there) for finding these and seeing them in a Firefly way! And then telling *me* about them! How shiny is that?!

Until next time:
"They have smallish droppings, don't they?"

It's COMICal!

So there's this guy, see, and he draws cartoony stuff. And there's this other guy, see, and he writes insightful observances. Oh, and did I mention they're both Browncoats?

Adam Leavermore-Rich (of Black Market Beagle fame) and C. A. Bridges (of Serenity Stuff fame) have gotten together (via the power of the cortex) and come up with this great new comic. It's about a fan of a canceled science fiction show who takes on a new roommate. The roomie is a newbie to the world of fandom. Basically, I think Adam and Chris are spying on me to get their ideas.

Those of you who know me will back me up after reading this:
(click on image to enlarge to read easier.)

OKAY! Tell me that isn't just a little bit like me???? Where are those cameras hidden?????

Anyway, this is a new comic that can be seen here:
http://savehiatus.com/
New editions come out every Monday and Friday, so check them out.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go make some more products for my Firefly shop, continue planning the Browncoat min-con, and make sure I have all the things lined up for the scifi cons I'm going to attend this year.

What?

Until next time:

Wacky Fun!

Plans are progressing very well for Bards Without Borders!

It's shaping up to be quite the full day of Brownish activities on the Saturday of FilKONtario. We've got a schedule packed with wacky fun for the April 5th day. There's a Q&A session with the Bards, a Browncoat game show, a competition called Toss-A-Gos and fan vids and other fun stuff. And don't forget the dealer room! There will be stuff available there to which no one else in the 'Verse will have access!

Early registration is closing soon, and the price at the door will be higher than the $25.00 "Browncoat" rate being offered now. So get yourself over to the FilKONtario web site and register now. http://www.filkontario.ca/

Come out and join us, won't you?

Until next time:

FilKONtario Web Page Update

The fine folks at FilKONtario have updated their web home page and news page to include mention of the Bedlam Bards.
http://www.filkontario.ca/

Although it's not really written down anywhere, much progress has been made in the planning of the Serenifly events for the Saturday of the convention. I was working full tilt on it, but then realized that some other time sensitive obligations were pending. So hands on work on the Bards Without Borders got set aside, but the mind is whirling on more plans.

I will be able to get back to actually pulling things together in a few day. I can't tally long. After all, day one of the convention is only 34 days away!!!

Until next time:

Cheery Projects for Dreary Days

Well, it's nearly the end of the 2nd month of the year, but I still have time to squeeze in another new project. (Shooting for one new item in the Firefly Cargo Bay per month of 2008 - so far so good)

I am cheerfully presenting the latest product available - the Kaylee-esque Parasol! These paper parasols are hand painted by me with as much love as Kaylee put into decorating her own (I'm sure).
The parasol covers a full 32" diameter and is painted in acrylic red yellow and green paint for bright color and durability. I'm offering them for $20.00 plus shipping. Email me for orders and questions about them; earthgirl@kos.net

The one pictured is my personal one for display at show booths and I'm absolutely thrilled with it. It was my first attempt at recreating an actual prop from the show. I've discovered that the spirals are not geometric nor mathematical in nature. My husband will attest to this as he tried several methods of getting me a spiral pattern off his computer. It took me several weeks to figure out how to get the spiral as close looking to the one Kaylee has in the show. You have to picture the final method that worked - me kneeling in front of the tv with a piece of paper stuck to the screen while the dvd player was on pause! Sometimes it's best to abandoned the high tech methods and go back to basics I suppose!

The next challenge was translating that flat drawing onto a slightly conical shape. The one pictured is not quite right, but was my first attempt not only at getting the spiral right, but actually painting a paper parasol. Now that I've gotten the hang of it all, the others will be faster to complete.

The entire time I was struggling with the challenges of doing this project I kept thinking that somewhere there's a costume/prop person who has no idea of the trials their one little prop has presented to those of us who have recreated it. It just struck me as the funny quirks of fandom.

ANYWAY! Until next time:
"Cap't, can you stop her from being cheerful, please."
